Year was 1918. Place was Dakshin Ray Tala in a village Santragachi . Some boys in their teens were enjoying their teen days with village environment. The place was green, playgrounds were abundant Their whole activities were encircling Dakshin Ray Tala , consisting of deity of SHIVA under a huge baniyan tree. .According to legends this was one of the gateways to Sundarban Delta. Dakshin Ray was the God of Tiger. But how it became a place of worship of SHIVA is not known.

In 1918 those boys planned to form a club – they called it Baker Samity, afterwards it became Santragachi Sporting Club. They made a hut like structure according to their means. Football was their main attraction. Since they were sensitive, social activities for a benefit of society automatically came to their minds and they did it whenever it was necessary. Time passes on. New ideas came into their minds. They planned to build a club room. Then late Baidyanath Sanyal gifted a stretch of land in the south of Dakshin Ray Tala. They built the club room with full energy. They themselves carried bricks and other materials from different sources. This was original club which today a three storied building. Since then the baton of activities is being transferred from generation to generation. Developments and activities were varied from time to time but always mingled with sports and social welfare.

To give minute details of these activities it will form a book. We celebrated our centenary throughout the year 2017. Women also join us and we are marching towards the bright future. Now Santragachi Sporting Club is a joint family consisting of 1) Club 2) Udit Bhaban Cultural Centre 3) Dakshin Ray Tala Sishu Udyan. 4) Dakshin Ray Puja Samity. We pay our sincere respect to our late founder members who enormous difficulties formed this club and gave us the chance to serve the society and to live meaningfully.
